The Women’s Center for Creative Work celebrates California Bookstore Day at Skylight Books with a selection of independently published artists books.
Saturday, May 3rd 10am to 10pm
To celebrate California Bookstore Day, the Women’s Center for Creative Work took up a residency at Skylight Books in Los Feliz thanks to an invitation from WCCW member Jenn Witte. We presented an array of independently published books by female artists, writers, photographers and poets. In line with Skylight Books ongoing hash tag and display #ReadWomen2014 and the WCCW’s mission to highlight and connect the vast array of female creative practices, the display featured everything from poetry chapbooks and zines to posters and cards to books of poetry and magazines. The selection of works were determined through an open call for books, ephemera and printed matter, open to female artists and writers nationwide. This was our first venture into experimenting with a female creator-driven economy, by and for those involved! All sales from the presented works went to support the individual artist and the WCCW.
