This workshop series is made possible with support from the Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs (DCA)
According to Viola Spolin (inventor of the American improv tradition), in order to “break through the walls that keep us from the unknown, ourselves and each other, we must first be thrown off-balance or forget the known.” This improv workshop will playfully explore the creative space of the unknown and the unscripted. By willfully throwing ourselves off-balance we will make space to listen to our impulses and respond generously as we create new stories, characters and relationships in improvised scenes. Open to all levels of experience, we welcome non-performers and performers alike.
This workshop consists of 4 weekly four-hour improv workshops followed by a performance. Workshop attendees should sign up in advance for all four weeks. At the end of these four weeks workshop attendees will form a temporary improv team to “open” for a GiRL CRUSH performance with a half-hour performance of their own.
Oh, and it’s gonna be like, totally fun!
GiRL CRUSH is a girl gang of stone cold weirdos and cool kids who enjoy getting together and creating crush-worthy, story-focused, long-form improv.
*All members get 20% off paid programming. A limited number of free spots are also available for Warrior & Goddess level members. Email [email protected] to inquire about free tickets.
Our program costs go directly towards compensation of the instructors and staffers who work the event. We want to make programming as accessible as possible to anyone who is interested, however, so we offer volunteer opportunities in exchange for membership, as well as free community tickets to each program (number varies depending on capacity of the class).
