As COVID-19 and its effects continue to have a severe impact on the lives, health, and livelihoods of our local creative community, we are offering another round of COVID-19 Emergency Health Grant for Artists in 2021. We are incredibly grateful to the anonymous donor who has supported the Emergency Health Grant for seven years now for their support in making this fund possible. If you would like to make a donation to help make more grants available, you can do so here.
In light of immense and urgent need, we are opting for a short form application for $1,000 grants. Applicants who qualify* can submit an application by the deadline, Friday May 28th at 11:59pm. In the weeks following, the application will be reviewed and grantee selections made by our community partners (Mujeres de Maíz, Sustainable Little Tokyo, Cori Alegria) and WCCW staff, and notifications will be made to recipients by Friday July 2nd.
*Low-income artists who work in any genre or medium, who identify as a woman, as trans or nonbinary, and/or as a person of color, who live in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside or San Bernardino Counties are eligible to apply. Applicants must be over 21 years old. Please review this chart to see if you qualify as low income. Within the scoring of the grant, there is no benefit to being a more professional or established artist. The goal is to confirm that you are someone who consistently makes artwork of any discipline.
We are currently making grants of up to $1,000 to support the most vulnerable in our community, those hit the hardest by the health and financial ramifications of COVID-19. At this time we are making grants to artists who, in addition to qualifying under the general eligibility categories, are one of the following:
- Currently sick or have been sick with COVID-19
- are disabled and/or chronically ill
- are immunocompromised
- have a preexisting condition that makes them more vulnerable or less able to access resources right now
- are undocumented
- are a primary caregiver
- are experiencing food or housing insecurity and whose condition is being aggravated by the current crisis
While many of us are experiencing unprecedented levels of precarity and anxiety right now, there are extremely limited funds for us to grant. Before applying, please consider if you are currently in acute need. If not (for example, if you are still able to work from home or have other forms of income or financial support, have health insurance, proper care and nutrition, etc…), please consider not applying so that more funds are available for the most impacted folks in the community.
Application Deadline: May 28th, 2021, 11:59pm
